Rep. Tom Dempsey must really be afraid of what is coming in 2008. In 2006, Dempsey sponsored House Bill 1900 abolishing Missouri's contribution limits. As you may recall, these limits were a result of Proposition A passed in 1994 with 77 percent support.
So what do you do now when you fear the wrath of voters coming after you next election and the possibility of ballot initiative reinstating a campaign contribution limit system?
Of course, you make it impossible for citizens to put an initiative on the ballot. Rep. Dempsey's attempt at covering up the ethics boondoggle of House Bill 1900 (2006) [1], is to prohibit people working on a ballot initiative campaign to gather signatures - House Bill 863 (2007). [2]
I wonder what's coming next? Citizens can no longer contact their legislators to weigh in on important issues?
