What a slipshod affair it’s been between “Sparky” Sanford and his Argentine “soul mate.” This week the plot thickened in a chintzy Appalachian soap opera.

Blunt Tuition Trauma: 19% Tuition Increase Follows Signature of "Historic" Higher Education Bill

Matt Blunt was right.  His MoHELA sell off bill truly is historic.  Its focus on gold plated buildings at the expense of higher education affordability is already producing historic results--- like the 19% tuition increase just announced by Lincoln University in Jefferson City.

Watch for other Missouri institutions to follow suit as they rely on big tuition increases to offset gubernatorial short-sightedness.   And the timing couldn't be worse for the most endangered incumbent Governor in the country.

Cap on?

Most bills do not become effective until August 28 of the year that they are signed. I don't know if the MoStealA bill had an "emergency clause" making it law on the governor's signature or whether it will become law on the 28th of August. If it contains no emergency clause, look for others to sneak a tuition hike in under the wire.

My apologies to students across Missouri. Vote in 2008.

That's sickening.

In real terms when you consider the fact that most students have to take out loans which they will spend the next 10 years post-graduation making payments on, in addition to car loans, rent or house payments, sharp increases in tuition are unthinkable if you really do want an educated workforce.

It appears Matt has no real idea how most of us live and occasionally have to scrape to make basic expenses to get by.  Due to his father's wealth which somehow translated to personal wealth as indicated by his ability to buy a $400,000 house while still in his 30s, its clear he's never really had to.  He's always lived a life of privilege.  Most of us would have been tickled pink about the opportunity to live in a house as nice as the governor's mansion which apparently isn't good enough for Matt.

I guess that's why he's formulated so many disastrous policies for the bottom 2/3 of the state.  Sheer ignorance.

Blunt's "Tuition Caps" A Cruel Joke

If a college can raise tuition 19% in a single year under his plan, it clear Blunt's "tuition caps" are a cruel joke.
