From Arizona comes another chapter in the growing book of DC Republican corruption:

Indicted Arizona Congressman Rick Renzi should resign his U.S. House seat immediately, Gov. Janet Napolitano and the head of the Arizona Democratic Party said Wednesday. ...Renzi had announced he would not seek re-election to the District 1 seat last August, before he was indicted by a federal grand jury on 35 counts involving land deals.

A glance through the FiredUp! archive provides a reminder [0] that one of Renzi's biggest allies and supporters is from right here in Missouri:

The Arizona Daily Sun reports today that Rep. Roy Blunt has paid nearly $26,000 for the vote of Rep. Rick Renzi [1], an Arizona congressman.

U.S. Rep. Rick Renzi has thrown his support behind campaign contributor Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., to replace Tom DeLay as majority leader of the House, raising some eyebrows in the Valley. ...

It turns out Blunt is one of Renzi's top seven financial backers so far for this November's election.

Blunt and his political action committee have sent Renzi $26,000 in campaign contributions over the last four years...

Unsurprisingly, word is that Blunt is one of a number of GOP leaders who are urging Renzi not to step down out of fear that Republicans would be hard-pressed to defend his seat [2] in a special election.  In other words, Roy Blunt is once again demonstrating that he'd rather have a proven crook in any given Congressional seat than a Democrat.

With leaders like that is it any wonder that the GOP is poised to lose another boatload of House seats this November?
