Delbert Scott finally says what we’ve all known. The mean [1] GOP knows it might not control the legislature and Governor’s mansion so, before they are ousted, they are going to force through a constitutional amendment to weaken our voting rights, as well as an extremely unpopular [2] accompanying measure that could disenfranchise as many as 240,000 registered, law-abiding Missouri voters – including the elderly, disabled, poor, students, nuns, Lillie Lewis [3] and Kathleen Weinschenk [4]. From CDT [5]'s Rosenbaum:
So what’s the point of passing a concurrent bill with the constitutional amendment?[Sen. Delbert] Scott said that there is a hypothetical risk in holding off on passing a corresponding law, especially if Democrats gain control of the House, Senate or the Governor’s Mansion. It is unlikely that any legislation mandating a photo ID at the polls would pass under those circumstances — even with voter approval of the issue.
“If you don’t have a Republican governor, you won’t get it during that term,” Scott said.
Again [6]:
If Democrats gain control of the House, Senate or the Governor’s Mansion, it is unlikely any photo ID legislation would pass.
"If you don’t have a Republican governor, you won’t get it during that term," Scott said.
Great reasons for massive public policy changes that solve no problems but hurt many Missourians.
