The Wrinkly, White-Haired Dude

by Jean Carnahan

You’ve got to hand it to Paris Hilton.  Whether she sashaying off to jail, planning a trip to Maui, or socking it to the “wrinkly, white-haired dude,” she does it with style.  If you haven’t stumbled onto her video somewhere on the Internet, by all means check it out. [1]  McCain gets his comeuppance on this clip.

In a recent television ad, McCain had likened Obama’s celebrity status and adulation to that given to such seemingly air headed actresses as Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears.  In running the commercial, McCain was able to offend the Hilton family, who contribute to his campaign; tick off Paris; and widen the generation gap that he should be looking to close.

During her “few minutes in the sun,” Paris showed that she could read a script better than the Republican presidential nominee.  Thankfully, she did not endorse Obama in any way.   Instead, She pounded McCain’s fuddy-duddiness, proposed “her own” energy plan, and tossed her sun bonnet in the ring for president.

Her energy policy will sound good to many young people who view the video (though she does not differentiate between existing leases and those that oilers want to get their hands on now).  Knowing her audience, she didn’t want to overload them with details.

I’m sure there will be other Paris videos or copy-cat versions.  The “wrinkly white-haired dude” just opened a whole new cottage industry for bloggers with camcorders looking for a few celebrity moments.
