Description:KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now) is a national volunteer led non-profit organization that provides free, one-to-one recreational opportunities for children and young adults with mental and physical disabilities in the United States and in England. www.keenusa.org. The young people who participate in KEEN have disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and various developmental and intellectual disabilities. Each athlete is paired with his or her own volunteer coach at our activities, which may include recreational games, soccer, tennis, basketball, swimming, aerobics, bowling, and various adaptive activities.
The Program Coordinator will work with a dynamic group of volunteers and families to maintain and grow KEEN’s unique programs in Kansas City. The primary responsibility of the Program Coordinator is to manage the programs and work with the KEEN Kansas City Board of Directors. KEEN Kansas City holds a sports, swim and basketball session once a month on the weekends. This position is part time with flexible hours and work is from your home office. The Program Coordinator is responsible for all program activities and requests for information. KEEN sessions take place on Sundays, so weekend hours should be expected.
Specific Tasks
• Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates all KEEN Kansas City programs.
• Work closely with Coaches Committee and KEEN Board to maintain highest standards of safety and fun during KEEN events.
• With Board and Committee, develop program activities including volunteer orientation and training.
• Recruit volunteer coaches to participate at KEEN sessions.
• Engage and recruit volunteers to serve on the Coaches Committee.
• Outreach to local programs and parent groups to invite youth athletes to participate.
• Respond to inquiries from parents, volunteers and local community groups.
• Maintain accurate records and database of coaches and athletes.
• Comply with regular reporting requirements to KEEN USA.
• Foster positive relationships with other organizations working with disabled young people.
• Other projects as directed by the Board of Directors.
Additional Qualifications:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and internet
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Self driven but also able to work within a team.
• Experience working with nonprofits; working with children with disabilities a plus.
