Description:
Immediate Opening
Missouri State Coordinator
Apollo Alliance

Position Description:

The Apollo Alliance is seeking a state-wide Coordinator to help start, structure, guide, and expand the Apollo Alliance’s activities in Missouri. We are seeking an individual with strong organizing and communication skills and a keen interest in alternative energy and/or economic development policy. Experience working with labor and community organizations is a plus. This position reports to the National Field Director. This is an exciting opportunity to help start a new Apollo Alliance in Missouri, work with strategic & smart allies, and help build the movement toward clean energy and good jobs.

Core Responsibilities:

• Strategically developing the Missouri Apollo Alliance Steering Committee to reflect our broad coalition and build a strong political voice for clean energy & good jobs within the state.

• In tandem with the Steering Committee and other allies, developing a strategic plan, with clear goals, that is consistent with the Apollo Mission. This plan will include both initiating and developing Apollo-style projects in Missouri as well as integrating Missouri Apollo Alliance with national efforts and priorities.

• Organizing to meet those goals, as established.

• Mobilize broad support in Missouri via the Missouri Apollo Alliance, allies, and partners for Apollo’s federal policy initiatives currently summarized in the New Apollo Program.

• Coordinate support for the Missouri Apollo Alliance with both the National Apollo office and other Apollo Affiliates and Partners as needed.

• Respond to administrative and program requests from National Apollo staff and other Apollo Affiliates.

• Provide technical assistance to the Missouri Apollo Alliance.

Background on the Apollo Alliance:

The Apollo Alliance was launched in the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy to catalyze a new, green industrial revolution in America, a revolution in the way our country generates and uses energy so profound that it will touch literally every quarter of American life. Harkening back to President Kennedy's visionary call to meet the challenge of the Sputnik launch with an aggressive national commitment to landing the first man on the Moon within the decade, the Apollo Alliance spoke directly to the core values we share as Americans: our can-do spirit, our inherent optimism, and the pride we feel (or want to feel) about our country's place in the world. The subtext was clear: we did it before, we can do it again. This is America, the richest, most technologically advanced and industrious country in the world. If anyone can do it, we can do it. And we will.

The Apollo Alliance works at the local, state and national levels to transform our nation's approach to energy and, in so doing, to make America stronger and more secure: strategically, economically, and environmentally. Working with allies in the labor movement, the clean energy business sector, urban America, and the environmental community, Apollo builds the political support for energy investments that will provide a quadruple return to American taxpayers by: 1) reducing our dependence on foreign oil; 2) cutting carbon emissions that are destabilizing our climate; 3) restoring America to its rightful place as the world's leading innovator and developer of clean energy products and services; and 4) creating a new generation of well-paid, green-collar jobs for people across America. • Experience working with non-profit organizations
• Ability to convene various stakeholder groups with divergent opinions from business, labor, environmental, and social justice communities
• Self-directed, flexible, takes initiative, good judgment, big-picture thinking, and a sense of humor a must
