Sen. Bond continues to debate with his own set of facts
There's no reason to think that Sen. Bond is going to vote for the stimulus bill at this point, but is it too much to ask that he be challenged on his bogus statements?
Bond has said again and again that the stimulus bill "won't create jobs." We've said it before, but this is demonstrably false (the plan is expected to create or save about 73k in Missouri alone).
Today, Bond claimed that the public overwhelming opposes the bill. Again, demonstrably false. In fact, a Gallup survey released today shows that 58% of the public disapproves of the GOP opposition to the stimulus package, and 67% of the public supports the President's efforts:
Today's survey is consistent with previous polling demonstrating that a majority of the public supports the stimulus package.
It's one thing to disagree on the merits of the President's proposal. But it's hard to have a reasoned debate when Sen. Bond and his GOP colleagues are just making stuff up.

Is Bond lying?

I did catch a sound bite last nite by our benighted Senator Bond. He stated
that his constituents are responding to him 19 to 1 against Obama's Stimulus
package. Is he lying or are the people of Missouri really that
stupid? As a former resident of Chicago, Illinois, I am sometimes shocked
to see the levels of brutish ignorance that are accepted in the minds of some
Missouri's citizens and even lauded in the halls of our state capitol.
I have recently lead a campaign to petition Senator Bond to vote for the
stimulus package. One of the reasons for resistance to this campaign may
be due to the fact that many believe Bond is so insulated from the will of his
constituents that registering their support for Obama's stimulus package with
him is the ultimate act of futility. This could be yet another
explanation for the 19 to 1 figure he quoted. Either way, it is a sad
statistic.

Bond is So Unstimulating
Look at it this way, Bob. If you were for the stimulus, would you bother to call Kit Bond and wait on a line to tell some intern who, may or may not, even record your vote?
On the other hand, if you belonged to some right-wing group trying to make Bond feel better about being such a jerk, you might place multiple calls and feel like you were doing the Lord's work.
I think Bond's many "calls" are designed to soothe his conscience.
