Peter Kinder's youth outreach efforts fail 17 minutes after launch

Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder appears to be pretty excited about new RNC Chair Michael Steele's plan for a hip new GOP that appeals to younger voters. Unfortunately for Kinder, the rollout of his outreach strategy has gone about as well as Steele's.

Kinder's youth outreach plan is apparently limited to learning the hip new lingo of the internets:

“Young people do not have a habit that I grew up with and so many others did of reading newspapers,“ Kinder said. “They’re going online for their news. They’re reading blogs, they’re reading something, they’re doing something called Twitter.”

Shockingly, the actual young Republicans in the room with Kinder were not impressed:

Kinder illustrated a technological divide between college-aged people and older generations, with whom the Republican Party usually has more appeal.

In an interview after the event, [Truman State College Republicans President Casey] Sharp said she was not satisfied with Kinder’s response. She said Republican elected officials should work to be more present on college campuses.

“Other than the technology, we need them physically there because that’s what’s going to make the impact,” Sharp said.

We might also humbly suggest that having a reasonable platform on which to govern would be an important step in expanding the base of the Republican Party.  And then not embarrassing oneself upon taking office.  That would be a good start.
