Stick a Fork in DeLay, He's Done and Check the Fork For Roy Blunt's Fingerprints
Check out this story from the Houston Chronicle. DeLay appears to be in deep trouble. Even the ultra-conserative editorial page of the Wall Street Journal has started to turn on DeLay.
The Wall Street Journal, which in the past has quibbled with DeLay over issues, took dead aim at his ethical conduct.
" ... Mr. DeLay, who rode to power in 1994 on a wave of revulsion at the everyday ways of big government, has become the the living exemplar of some of its worst habits," the newspaper editorialized.
And check out this gem of a quote from DeLay:
"My father was in a coma. Schiavo is a living person," DeLay said. "My father was on life support and dying. Schiavo is living and wants to live. There is no similarity at all and to even suggest so is pretty sad."
Here is the interesting Missouri twist on the whole thing. Do you suppose that there is any truth to the rumor that Blunt and his staff are the ones behind the scenes actually fanning the flames on all the bad press DeLay has been getting over the last few days? Word has it, Blunt has Cong. Sam Graves in on the intrigue as well.Â
It makes a certain amount of sense, after all, Roy is the one who stands to gain the most if DeLay blows up. Blunt would presumably make the play for the #2 post in the House.Â
If so, that's a very dangerous game for him to be playing. He'd better hope he doesn't get caught, and that DeLay doesn't survive.
