Talent's Supporters Can't Tell The Difference Between Nazi Death Camps And The Stowers Institute: Can Jim Talent?

Jim Talent has been telling reporters in recent days that he think the stem cell issue may end up being a net positive for his campaign because it will have the effect of mobilizing his base.

As part of the Talent campaign's effort to work his political base into a frenzy, Talent's political grassroots allies like Missouri Right to Life have set up a series of rallies with Talent's friend, Alan Keyes.

At last night's rally in Cape Girardeau, Keyes equated the research conducted at top notch Missouri facilities like the Stowers institute, "as the moral equivalent of Nazi medical experiments on the inmates of death camps during World War II."

From today's Southeast Missourian:

Alan Keyes, the keynote speaker, said embryonic stem-cell research is
the moral equivalent of Nazi medical experiments on the inmates of
death camps during World War II.

And despite wording in Amendment 2 imposing harsh criminal
penalties on anyone attempting to create a living human clone using the
stem-cell research techniques, Keyes raised the possibility of an
industrial effort to produce clones.

The result, he said, would be "new legions of humans to be enslaved and brutalized."

So while Jim Talent is running TV ads claiming that he wants to bring people together, and not be disagreeable, he has his political allies out there give hateful speeches like this one.

Shame on Talent.

Wishy Washy

Jim Talent can't make up his mind on where he stands in this very controversial issue. I asked one of his campaign people about it point blank and he could not give me a straight answer as to where Talent stands.

Talent needs to quit riding the fence and make up his mind even if it means political suicide.

Talent's stem cell position revealed!

Let's be fair

You will not find a more passionate advocate for embryonic and SCNT stem cell research than I, but let's not make the same mistake as the religious "wrong."  Let's be accurate.

The comment regarding Nazi experiments was not made by Talent.  The comment came from Keyes, who, by the way, did not volunteer to speak.  Rudi Keller of the Southeast Missourian reported that Keyes was paid $2500 for the appearance.  Keller also revealed, " The rally at Notre Dame Regional High School in Cape Girardeau is the second in a series sponsored by Vision America, a Texas-based evangelical organization."

MO Right to Life, the Baptist Convention and other groups have also been inundating the clergy with propaganda, attempting to further spread their falsehoods so as to invade our Sunday sermons.  Click here to read an angry response from a Baptist Pastor who finds their activities despicable.

Can't Jim Talent Speak for Himself on this?

Or is he too weak to stand up to Keyes and the storm troopers of his own party?

Silence is weakness

Talent's recent silence on stem cell research speaks volumes.  He has attempted to both appease the right and straddle a line, noticeably absent from the debate on HR810 (the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act), showing up only to vote "no."  But remember, he also de-cosponsored himself from Brownback's anti-cloning bill, which had angered the religious "wrong."  You can read a very interesting article (click here) about Talent's two-faced and uninformed position on stem cell research.

When you're on the wrong side of an issue, it's not wise to advertise that 65% or so of your constituents think you're dead wrong, let alone standing in the way of possibly healing their loved ones or themselves.  Moreover, as a wise old Missourian once said, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."  Talent has paid heed to the sage advice about removing doubt, but those in the know still think him a fool.

All part of Talent GOTV effort

What's sad is that this type of hate speech will be part of Jim Talent's effort to get his right-wing base to the polls on Election Day. Talent has been such a miserable failure to fiscal conservatives that he is now trying to light a fire under social conservatives by having the likes of Alan Keyes drum up complete lies.

Are you kidding me......?

Nazis? Death camps? This kind of rhetoric is reprehensible........shame on you, Jim Talent. You are an embarassment to our state.
