Nixon and Cleaver Headline Missouri Delegation Breakfast

This morning at the Missouri delegation breakfast, delegates heard from Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Jay Nixon as well as Congressman Emanuel Cleaver.

Nixon addressed attendees by talking about what a great year it has already been, as he has "retired" a Republican Governor in Matt Blunt, a Republican Treasurer in Sarah Steelman, and is poised to retire a "George Bush, John McCain supporting Congressman" in Kenny Hulshof.

Nixon went on to tell a now-familiar story about how he got his start in public service while he was a child in the home of his two public servant parents.  Nixon then reiterated a much touched-upon theme of the week, by seizing on the importance of this election and of electing Barack Obama.

Tony Viessman made the trek to the Democratic Convention to promote "Rednecks for Obama."  It's a play on "Rednecks for Carnahan" from Mel Carnahan's 1992 campaign for Governor.  He hit paydirt with this bit on the CBS News website:

Convention night 2

Hello Missouri Democrats, This is amazing. I expected this convention to be huge and exciting, but I had no idea how much the reality could exceed my expectations. I was very proud of Sen. Clinton tonight for her remarks of support of Sen. Obama. Being a Hillary Clingon delegate, I am also very happy for the response she recived from the crowd, giving her the respect and honor that she deserves and earned by obtaining 18 million votes and breaking barriers for so many Americans. Our Democratic Party truly is one of all of our people. Thanks, Brett C.

DNCC Packed to the Gills

The podium area on the convention floor is growing so packed, as are the aisles and delegation seating areas, that convention Staff and fire marshals have actually closed off access from the concourse into the floor area at several spots, including at the Missouri delegation section entrances.

Many appear excited to be as close as possible as Hillary Clinton uses her Tuesday night speaking spot for a full-throated and vehement reminder to delegates of the importance of electing Barack Obama.

Four More Months

During Senator Bob Casey's speech he said all the usual litany of Bush/Chaney failures and said McCain would continue the same. He said,"these guys want four more years, but they're only going to get four more months."

Then the convention attendees spontaneously started to chant "four more months" two more times during his speech.
