Deep Division Emerges Within Missouri Baptist Convention
Submitted by Cole on Wed, 04/16/2008 - 11:20am.
As Republicans look to conservative Christians for help in the fall elections, they should mark the Missouri Baptist Convention off their target list.
According to the Missouri Baptist Pathway, the Convention is facing deep internal strife in a battle for the soul of the conservative denomination. It seems unlikely they will have much time or energy for secular politics this fall.

Will Baptist Sprinkling and Paid Advertising Save Blunt from Angry GOP Base?
Submitted by patriot on Mon, 07/09/2007 - 3:40pm.
Matt Blunt is on the defensive (again) with the anti-choice base of his own party.
In a last ditich effort to avoid a primary challenge from the right, Blunt has resorted to deperate tactics. In the last several days, Blunt has:
- Staged an anti-choice bill signing in a Baptist church
- Distributed defensive canned quotes of praise for his anti-choice record
- Tried to distract the GOP base by running attack ads against Jay Nixon
But it is unclear if the flurry of activity will make the GOP base forget about Blunt's running war of words with Missouri Right to Life (he once called them "bizarre") or memorable condemnations of Blunt by the Baptist Pathway (including that he was heading for "political Armageddon").
I'm guessing the GOP base will only be satisfied seeing Blunt fully immersed in #&%@!. Story Continued »
Let's Pretend!!
Submitted by Proud_Dem on Tue, 06/26/2007 - 6:17pm.Let’s Pretend!!!
by Mark Pogue
Just to ease the pain of most Americans let’s pretend that George W.
Bush is a peacemaker. Most other countries fear him more than
Ahmadinejad. Why is that? Are all of these opinions wrong? Can we
proceed with impeachment hearings…just for fun?

There Is Nothing I Dislike More…
Submitted by Proud_Dem on Tue, 06/19/2007 - 9:00am.There Is Nothing I Dislike More…
By Mark Pogue
There is Nothing I Dislike More Than:
• Knowing that Osama bin Laden has not been captured, due to apathy of
the Bush Administration and Congress. There is no excuse for this lack
of action. We can find Saddam Hussein in a little hole in Iraq, but yet
Osama bin Laden cannot be found?

Lessons in Real Bigotry
Submitted by Howard Beale on Sat, 05/19/2007 - 9:47am.In a post earlier this week, we described the Senate GOP's new fundraising committee and the involvement in it of Blunt fee agent Buddy Hardin. Included in a graf about Hardin was a blurb about his running a blog which Hardin himself describes as "Organizing Republican Mormons in Missouri," and our suggestion that the site was an attempt by Hardin to assist in the campaign of presidential candidate and Mormon, Mitt Romney.

Submitted by Howard Beale on Mon, 04/16/2007 - 7:00pm.Obviously, Sen. Chris Koster thinks he's already got the Republican nomination for Attorney General wrapped up. Why else flip the bird to the most fervent activist wing of the GOP primary voting base by taking a whopping minimum of $210,000 from stem cell research interests at the front end of his first statewide bid?
Made public today, Koster's Missouri Ethics Commission report included the following contribution entries:

Submitted by Howard Beale on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 4:14pm.If you thought Governor Matt Blunt was the only Missouri Republican in a grudge-match cagefight with anti-research groups like Missouri Right to Life and the Missouri Catholic Conference, you obviously aren't privy to the pointed mass emails flying back and forth through the ether between those groups and GOP Representative Carl Bearden.
Back on March 30th, Bearden --who may seek a party committee's nomination for Chuck Gross's soon-to-be vacant St. Charles senate seat-- sent an email to his co-partisan House colleagues, slamming the state's pre-eminent anti-choice advocacy groups. In the email, reproduced below, Bearden specifically refers to Missouri Right to Life and the Missouri Catholic Conference as "hypocrites" and "less than credible organizations," while also lodging other charges...

Tom Eagleton's Farewell Address
Submitted by Jefferson Thomas on Sun, 03/11/2007 - 12:38pm.Senator Tom Eagleton wrote the following words of farewell in May, 2006, with instructions that they be shared with his family and friends at Saturday's memorial service.
Barbara, Terence, Christy, Michael, grandchildren Barbara, James and Greg, and friends all:
This is my last audience and, thus, I think I am entitled to the last word.
Using Lou Gehrig's famous quote, "I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth."
I have had a wonderful, understanding wife. She has endured all of my foibles and I love her for it. I have been an absentee father. Politics is an all-absorbing, all-consuming profession. It takes a total, exclusive grip on one's life. So I apologize to Terence and Christy and express how much I love them.

Its Time to Treat Matt Blunt Like Any Other Employer. Demand He Receive the Help He Needs
Submitted by Sherlock on Tue, 02/27/2007 - 8:42am.If one thing has become clear in the disgusting case revolving around Matt Blunt's cover-up
of the Fred Ferrell, it is that Matty obviously does not understand the seriousness of sexual harassment in the workplace. Blunt spokeswoman Jessica Robinson said that
"After reviewing the matter, the governor moved to terminate Fred unless he complied with a series of disciplinary sanctions that included apologizing, suspension, appropriate and extensive sensitivity training"
How can Matt Blunt expect his subordinates to act appropriately if he himself does not know what constitutes sexual harassment. It is imperative the the Governor immediately begin his own "sensitivity training."
Luckily for the Governor, there is a renowned sexual harassment training organization located in Springfield, and since he likes to be there so much, it only makes sense that he attend a seminar while at his home. However, there are also other organizations that will come to his office for a training session, and this might be a better idea so the whole executive staff can take part. Matt Blunt, it is time to be a leader and begin the training you so desperately need.

Meth-Head Evangelist, Male Prostitute Patron Considers Move to Missouri
Submitted by Howard Beale on Tue, 02/06/2007 - 11:18am.
It may be cliché, but some clichés exist for a reason: you just can't make stuff like this up. Apparently, disgraced megachurch evangelist Ted Haggard is now "completely heterosexual" and thinking about joining us here in the Show-Me State:
One of four ministers who oversaw three weeks of intensive counseling for the Rev. Ted Haggard said the disgraced minister emerged convinced that he is "completely heterosexual." ...
"He is completely heterosexual," Ralph said. "That is something he discovered. It was the acting-out situations where things took place. It wasn't a constant thing." ...
Haggard said in an e-mail Sunday, his first communication in three months to church members, that he and his wife, Gayle, plan to pursue master's degrees in psychology. The e-mail said the family hasn't decided where to move but that they were considering Missouri and Iowa.
