Steve Walsh Casts the First Stone at Bloggers
How lucky we all are this morning to get a taste of Steve Walsh's unwarranted MSM self-righteousness as he holds forth on why "journalists" like him are so much better and more noble than the filthy, unwashed masses of the blogosphere:
The "political blogs" to which I refer are those written by agenda-driven individuals who are sometimes accidentally inaccurate ... and at other times intentionally dishonest. It is important for readers of these blogs to keep in mind that the writer is not trying to inform you as much as he or she is trying to get you to "swallow the Kool-Aid" and see things his or her way.
Ahh, political blogs are "agenda-driven" while Walsh's motives are pure. Well let me tell a little story about Steve Walsh.
A few months ago, Walsh was covering the court battle over ballot summary language written by the Secretary of State's office for a measure that would undo Amendment 2 and criminalize some forms of stem cell research in the state. Walsh's online report about the story featured audio recordings of quotations from participants in the lawsuit, one of whom supported the ballot language as written and and one who opposed it. Interestingly, when posted online, the audio file with the quote from a spokesperson from the Secretary of State's office had a curious title. Steve Walsh chose to name that file "Cloner".
You know who uses terminology like "cloner" to refer to state officials? People who are "agenda-driven," that's who.
So, Mr. Walsh, I propose that the difference between you ("the MSM") and us (the blogosphere) is actually something other than what you claim. While political bloggers are in fact "agenda-driven," the difference is that we don't spend our time putting on a show and pretending as though we have no agenda.
MSM'ers may, as you claim, have "reputations" to uphold, but it's an open question as to whether they're worth upholding. Welcome to the blogosphere, Steve.
