What economy is Matt Blunt watching?
Shot:
“By changing our state’s business climate, we have encouraged Missouri entrepreneurs, small businesses, and large employers such as Best Buy to create new jobs in our state,” Gov. Blunt said. “All Missourians benefit from living in a more prosperous state, a state where everyone has the chance to live up to their full potential. The pro-jobs, pro-growth initiatives we have enacted are working and I am pleased that Best Buy and other businesses have recognized that Missouri is a state that is open for business.”
--July 8, 2008 statement from Gov. Matt Blunt
The region's unemployment rate hit its highest level for May in 15 years, according to figures released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In the latest sign of a slumping local economy, 6 percent of the labor force was looking for work, up from 4.7 percent in May, 2007. It was the highest level for the month since 1993, when the unemployment rate hit 6.1 percent.--St. Louis Post-Dispatch, July 8, 2008
Matt Blunt plainly inhabits a far different world than do the rest of us.
